This lecture by Dipl. Eng. Ronald Eckert is part of the Public Lecture Series, organized by UEPP. Ronald Eckert teaches at the University of Cottbus, Department of Urban Planning and Spatial Design. He is involved in the Megacity Research Project HCMC, a research project about the adaptation of the existing and the future urban fabric of the city to climate change impacts. He presents alarming figures about the effects of climate change to the city. When the sea level rises one meter, it will have impact on 11% of the inhabitants and 11% of the total urban area. According to his opinion, in 2030 there will be 4 million people in the Mekong Delta Region who will lose their livelihoods. Those people are the first climate change refugees in Vietnam.
